zkaI just learned that Canada is not a safe destination for American asylum seekers, at the present time. Canada may enact a law to allow US minorities seeking asylum, but currently the two countries have a long-standing treaty which prevents seeking asylum in the other.
Similar issues with the Netherlands, at least until the big election happens later this month.
